Daily tips for June 23

AFL (R13) for June 23

Place a bet on the 1st Goal Scorer market in any AFL match and if your player kicks the 2nd goal but not the 1st, Centrebet will refund your first bet up to $100!

Fremantle v North Melbourne, Patersons Stadium, Sunday, June 23, 3.20pm AEST

Just two seasons ago, Freo and North combined for 32 goals at Patersons Stadium in a game the Dockers won by 29 points. They could play eight quarters here and still not reach that tally! Ross Lyon’s defensive juggernaut faces a stern test against the competition’s sixth-ranked attack but given that Collingwood and Essendon managed just 73 and 72 points respectively in their visits to Perth, it’s hard to envisage a Kangaroos win here. They’ve won just once at Patersons Stadium since 2007 while Freo have won 10 of the past 11 matches at their home ground to go with seven in-a-row at all venues this season. Update – expecting very wet conditions in Perth this afternoon.

Suggested bet: Triple margin under 24 LOSE, game total -141.5 WIN (67-29)

Brisbane v Geelong, Gabba, Sunday, June 23, 4.40pm AEST

The Lions are back home after a predictably miserable loss to Freo only to find a refreshed Geelong preparing to improve its season record to 11-1. Discussion during the week whether the Cats would rest players hardly fills Lions fans with much hope here, but they regain Jonathan Brown and Daniel Merrett to go with the return of Daniel Rich, Matthew Leuenberger, Tom Rockliff and Mitch Golby last week. However, that’s more than offset by the availability of Harry Taylor, Steven Motlop and Taylor Hunt for the Cats. In the coaching battle of the premiership teammates, we’ll take Scott over Voss along with a play on the ‘under’ in wet conditions at the Gabba.

Suggested bet: Geelong -27.5 LOSE, game total -191.5 LOSE (103-98)

Racing for June 23

Horse racing: Cranbourne (Vic), Murwillumbah (NSW), Sunshine Coast (Qld), Hamilton (Vic), Muswellbrook (NSW), Launceston (Tas), Pioneer Park (NT), Kalgoorlie (WA), Carnarvon (WA). Harness racing: Globe Derby (SA), Hobart (Tas), Ararat (Vic). Greyhound racing: Healesville (Vic), Sandown Park (Vic), Gawler (SA), Sale (Vic), Nowra (NSW), Albion Park (Qld).

There aren’t too many dry tracks in NSW at the moment after days of heavy rain and that’s also the case at the Tweed River Jockey Club where today’s eight-race card will be run on a heavy (9). We’ve been on board #5 Don’t Get Me Rong for each of her three starts this campaign and see no reason to hop off in the Tursa Sky Racing Gold Murwillumbah Newmarket over 1200m (race 6) today. This 4yo mare was a last start winner this track and distance on June 2, also in heavy going. This field is slightly stronger but Paul Smith’s charge looks in career best form and will again go close here.

Suggested bet: Murwillumbah R6 #5 Don’t Get Me Rong (E/W) LOSE (4th)

Other tips

Cranbourne R4 #1 Black Fusion (win) LOSE (2nd)
Cranbourne R7 #4 Beacons (E/W) 1st ($6.40/$2.10)

Murwillumbah R4 #1 Kristrom (E/W) LOSE (U/P)
Sunshine Coast R7 #3 Dubai Gee Eye (E/W) 2nd ($1.60)
Kalgoorlie R6 #5 Full Metal Jacket (E/W) LOSE (U/P)

Harness racing tip: Ararat R7 #3 Misschinoise (E/W) LOSE (4th)
Greyhound racing tip: Healesville R9 #2 Nic Nat Nui (win) LOSE (2nd)

NHL Stanley Cup Finals for June 20

Game 5: Boston Bruins @ Chicago Blackhawks, United Center, Chicago, IL, Sunday, June 23, 10.10am (series tied 2-2)

Corey Crawford did his best to pick up for his ailing glove with a funny quip. The Chicago Blackhawks will look for the goaltender's performance to do the talking here when they host the Boston Bruins in Game 5 of the Stanley Cup final. Crawford has yielded 12 goals in the series – with eight coming from the glove side. “Last series they were talking about my blocker,” Crawford joked. “Both sides are bad, I guess!” The goalie could afford to make light of the situation after defenseman Brent Seabrook scored 9:51 into overtime as the Presidents' Trophy-winning Blackhawks evened the series at two games apiece with a 6-5 win on Thursday. Venturing past regulation has been the norm in this series, as three of the four contests have been decided after 60 minutes – Game 1 spanning triple overtime.

Marian Hossa returned for the Blackhawks after being a late scratch prior to Game 3 by collecting one assist and mustering four shots on goal in just over 19 minutes of ice time on Thursday. The veteran admitted that he was limited in that contest due to the injury and even missed practice yesterday. The line for Game 5 opened with the 'Hawks as $1.80 favourites and hasn't moved much from that general vicinity. Chicago will be happy to be back at home where it has posted a playoff record of 10-2. The two clubs split the first two games of the series in the Windy City and hammered the total in Game 4 as they combined for 11 goals. The total for tonight's game opened at five with the teams splitting the over/under in the first four games of the series. The under is 6-1 in Blackhawks' last seven when their opponent scores five goals or more in their previous game.

Suggested bet: Game total -5 (2.5 units @ $1.68) WIN, Blackhawks WIN (1.5 units @ $1.68) WIN (1-3)

MLB for June 23

Oakland Athletics (44-32, 22-20 away) @ Seattle Mariners (32-43, 18-18 home), Sunday, June 23, 9.10am

The Oakland Athletics came away with a 6-3 victory in yesterday’s opener against the Seattle Mariners, cashing at the pick’em price of $1.93. This rematch at Safeco Field has a pair of right-handed starters slated, with Seattle’s Aaron Harang (3-7, 5.73 ERA) facing Oakland’s Daniel Straily (4-2, 4.97 ERA). The ‘over’ is 4-1-1 in Oakland’s last six match-ups against right-handed starters, while going 7-2 in Seattle’s most recent nine spots with Harang on the hill. Umpire Gerry Davis has had ‘over’ backers collect at a 3-2 clip in his last five called games, including a 2-1 mark in American League parks.

Straily is 0-1 with an 8.68 ERA in two career match-ups against the Mariners and gave up six runs over five innings in a 6-3 defeat at Safeco Field on May 10. He won three straight decisions but allowed six runs in 4 2/3 innings in his latest start Monday, an 8-7 defeat in Texas. He gave up two home runs after allowing none in his prior six outings. Harang (3-7, 5.28), meanwhile, will seek to return to the form he showed in a pair of recent shutouts. The right-hander recorded the second of those June 11 against visiting Houston – a two-hitter with 10 strikeouts – but he struggled in an 11-3 road loss to the Angels on Monday.

Suggested bet: Athletics WIN (1.5 units @ $1.78) LOSE, game total +7.5 (2.5 units @ $1.95) WIN (5-7)
