NRL round
6 for April 13
Canberra
Raiders v NZ Warriors, Canberra Stadium, Saturday, April 13, 7.30pm
Coming off
a morale-boosting win over the Roosters last week (form franked last night) and
with Terry Campese set to make his long-awaited return from injury for
Canberra, the Raiders look well placed here against the Warriors.
Suggested bet:
Raiders -5.5 (three units) LOSE

AFL round
3 for April 13
North
Melbourne v Sydney, Blundstone Arena, Hobart, Saturday, April 13, 1.45pm
We reckon
Sydney is a false favourite here. They’ve not overly impressed against either
the Giants or Suns while the Kangaroos have lost heart breakers to Geelong and
Collingwood.
The Roos
also have the advantage of playing at their home away from home, Blundstone
Arena, where they commanded huge local support last year.
Near full strength and desperate
not to slip to 0-3, Brad Scott’s boys will be up for this one and while we’re
tipping North Melbourne outright, let’s take the start on offer, with a small play on
game total.
Suggested
bet: North Melbourne +8.5 (two units) LOSE, game total +184.5 WIN
Other tips
Melbourne v West Coast -62.5 WIN
Gold Coast
+12.5 v Brisbane WIN
Geelong -12.5 v Carlton WIN, -201.5 game total LOSE

Racegoers
are expected to pack Royal Randwick today for David Jones Australian Derby Day.
This is the first meeting to be held here since the Spring Carnival and will
feature three Group 1 races – the $1.5m Group 1 David Jones Australian
Derby, $500,000 Inglis Sires Produce Stakes plus the $1m Darley T.J. Smith Stakes.
Three
champions – Overreach, It’s a Dundeel and the superstar mare Black Caviar (pictured) –
will all go around as short-priced favourites in their respective Group 1
races, so let’s look elsewhere for some value. Indeed,
let’s look to Flemington, where we can’t wait to see the NZ St Leger winner #1
Serpent jump from barrier 11 in the Galilee Series Final over 2500m.
Brad
Rawiller takes the ride aboard the 3yo gelding, which brings a record of three
wins and a second from six starts. The dead (4) track and wide expanses of
Flemington make this an ideal first start in Australia for this promising
stayer with cups potential for the spring.

the day: Flemington R4 #1 Serpent (win two units) LOSE

MLB for
April 13
New York
Mets @ Minnesota Twins, Target Field, Minneapolis, MN, Saturday, April 13,
10.10am
Jonathon
Niese had a career year in 2012, a nice season in which he established himself
as a potential number one starter down the road. With Johan Santana injured
again and the Mets trading Cy Young Award winner R.A. Dickey, Niese had to take
on that role a little sooner than originally thought.
The left-hander
hasn't disappointed, and he'll look to continue his strong start when the Mets
visit offensively challenged Minnesota. The Twins starter Vance Worley
struggled against the Mets in 2012. He faced off against them three times and
went 0-2 with an 8.79 ERA, giving up 27 hits and 14 runs in 14 and 1/3 innings.

Phoenix Coyotes @ Calgary Flames, Scotiabank
Saddledome, Calgary, Alberta, Canada, Saturday, April 13, 11.07am
A much-needed road win boosted the
surging Phoenix Coyotes' playoff hopes their last time out. The Coyotes
continue a road-heavy closing stretch when they visit the Calgary Flames here
looking to avoid a third straight loss at the Saddledome.
Phoenix (18-16-6) is in ninth
place in the Western Conference, right on the heels of Detroit for the final
playoff berth. The Coyotes have put the pressure on by winning four of five and
going 5-1-2 in eight.
The rebuilding Flames, however, haven't given too many teams
trouble lately. Calgary (14-21-4) has lost six of seven and failed to win
back-to-back games for the first time since March 13 and 15.
Suggested
bet: Coyotes -1.5 (two units) LOSE

Kings @ San Antonio Spurs, AT&T Center, San Antonio, TX, Saturday, April 13,
10.40am
San Antonio (57-21) has been
struggling through its recent injury epidemic and dropped its fourth in six
games with Thursday’s 96-86 loss at Denver. They were without Playing without Tony
Parker (sore neck), Boris Diaw (back), Stephen Jackson (ankle) and Manu
Ginobili (hamstring).
The Spurs are locked in a tight
race with Oklahoma City for first place in the West with just four games
remaining but will be without Diaw for a month while it was announced this
morning that they’ve passed on Jackson. Amid the turmoil, we fancy the Kings to
cover the not-insignificant line.
Suggested
bet: Kings +12.5 (three units) WIN
