AFL (R17) for July 19
North Melbourne v Carlton, Etihad Stadium, Friday, July 19, 7.50pm
We should have little confidence investing money on either of
these sides who’ve proved to be two of the great money munchers of the 2013 AFL
season! Mathematically, both remain in contention for the finals but it will
probably take the loss of Essendon’s premiership points to make this a reality.
The Roos again snatched defeat from the jaws of victory in the latest case of
the mental demons that have afflicted Brad Scott’s side all season.
The Blues
were solid against St Kilda, with Lachie Henderson filling the void in attack
left by Jarrad Waite, however, skipper Marc Murphy looks doubtful for this.
North regain Scott McMahon and Lindsay Thomas. Having won five of eight at
Etihad this season (plus narrow losses to Geelong and Adelaide) and played the better football, North look a pretty solid bet to open the round and set the tone for the weekend after our lean round 16!
Suggested bet: Nth Melbourne 1-39 (1.5 units @ $2.40) LOSE, game
total +195.5 (2.5 units @ $1.90) WIN (108-109)

Track
conditions are good (3) for today’s meeting in the nation’s capital on the
Canberra Acton track where our best of the day comes in race 8, the Australian
Jockeys Association Benchmark 60 Handicap over 1280 metres. #4 Game of Chance
has a terrific chance of improving his record to four wins from eight starts,
having won in almost identical circumstances here on July 7. Brendan Ward will
carry an extra 2kg while #3 Aupose, which finished runner-up in that race,
drops 0.5kg thanks to the claim of David Pisani. However, class looks on the
side of Matthew Dale’s 3yo gelding from barrier 6.
Suggested
bet: Canberra R8 #4 Game of Chance WIN (two units @ $2.90) ABANDONED
